“So far, so good. I’ve been pleasantly surprised how easy it is to control, and the speed for heating and cooling is really impressive. Cooling is pretty much instant – cool air comes out as soon as you switch it on and all rooms only take a few minutes to cool substantially. Even the main open plan area downstairs which is a fairly big space, is noticeably cooler in a few minutes. Heating takes a little bit longer but it’s still impressively quick.
You can set the blower to full power initially so you can get some warmth immediately and after a few minutes you can reduce it down to a standard setting to keep a constant temperature.
The most pleasing aspect of the whole project though is just how smart the entire system is and how it all works together beautifully. A good example of that is when the smart water tank is topped up with surplus solar energy which would otherwise be redirected back to the grid. So the water tank becomes an additional storage unit when required which is just a really good example of how a system can work for you.
There is also something hugely satisfying in knowing that you are heating a large home in an entirely sustainable way.
“It’s a breeze to be honest. I was a little bit worried to begin with just because I thought it would be a bit of a technical headache, but it really isn’t complicated.
The GiveEnregy App is kind of addictive to begin with. Every time the sun comes out you’re checking to see if you’re at maximum charge.
You get constant data on how much energy is being generated by the solar panels and how much is coming in from the grid, which is basically barely anything.
We’ve not been able to test the battery in the dead of winter yet but it’s mid November now and we’re getting a full charge each day.
Any surplus energy generated that can’t be stored in the battery or the water tank gets sold back to the grid.
“It was really simple to install. The plumber started on the same day as the solar panels were being installed so it was a bit chaotic to begin with but the water tank was in and ready to go by midday.
It’s a very clever bit of kit. It basically only heats what you need and it learns over time based on your actual usage. It can take on board any surplus energy from the solar so it effectively becomes a backup form of storage.
You can find out exactly how much hot water you have through the app and you can also set up a schedule with specific rules for every day of the week, so if you know you need more hot water on any given day, you can set a schedule rule for that day.
Another nice touch is the boost button which I’ve used way more so far than I probably should have.
Overall, I’ve been really impressed with the water tank. Very easy to install and to get set up and so far, it’s done the job brilliantly”
Overall I’ve been really impressed with the whole setup. Installation was really striaght-forward. Because this is an air-to-air-system, there was minimal disruption during the install. No need for additional pipework or redecorating afterwards, it was a really straightforward install that took about a day and a half in all and that included the solar roof panels which were probably the biggest challenge.
One of my big concerns was how easy it would be to control everything but it really is a lot less daunting thaN I thought it might be. I have 3 main apps to control everything.
One issue we did have was with linking the floor console into the WiFi. Turns out it doesn’t come with a WiFi receiver built in as standard but that was easily rectified and Panasonic sent us one out straight away.
